Aspire Learning Partnership - Mini Olympics

26th June 2015
On the afternoon of Friday 26th June, the Redcar and Eston School Sport Partnership hosted an exciting athletic sporting event at Hillsview Academy on behalf of the Aspire Learning Partnership. The event included many Olympic type events, with an emphasis on fun and competition. The event saw schools in the ALP bringing a team of up to 25 Year 6 children. Each school took part in eight different activity stations set up on the field at Hillsview Academy, with the Hillview Academy PE Department and sports leader students helping to run and score each activity. Events included throwing events such as howler throw and welly throw, as well as a football speed cage and an obstacle course. Matt Dunford, School Sports Co-ordinator for the Redcar and Eston School Sports Partnership, said "Each station had have its own scoring system where children showed their determination and sporting prowess to score points for their school. The afternoon culminated with an exciting twist on a traditional 4x100m relay race, with girls and boys racing separately and using a large exercise ball instead of a normal relay baton. Double points were at stake for this finale, ensuring an exciting conclusion to the afternoon." This was the latest in a series of events that the ALP has he;d this summer to promote the schools' working together and celebrate the achievements of the Partnership’s first year. On this occasion we were excited to be working in partnership with our local secondary school, Hillsview Academy, as well as the School Sports Partnership.
