Aspire 2 Achieve Gets Under Way

9th November 2015
On Monday the 9th November, a group of 36 children travelled to Durham University for the launch day of the Brilliant Club Scholars Programme.  Over the next few weeks they will be working with a PhD tutor from the University on a high level programme which will challenge them and develop their skills.  They throroughly enjoyed the launch day which included a Campus tour, study skills session and their initial tutorial with their tutor. The aim of the Brilliant Club is to widen access to the top universities for children from under represented groups.  Find out more about their work on their website. The Brilliant Club
On Tuesday the 10th November, teams of children from our schools travelled to Inspire 2 Learn to take part in a Scrapheap Challenge day.  Supported by volunteers from Durham and Teesside Universities and from business and industry, the children have been designing and creating a Space Hotel. Teams of children at our Inspire 2 Learn centre and back in school have been carrying out different business roles, such as engineer, builder, marketing and advertising executive, to mimic a real business project. The Scrapheap Challenge is an activity from the Partnership's Aspire 2 Achieve programme, designed to develop children's employability skills and inspire them to think about different career paths.
